ITINERARY: 7 DAYS /6 NIGHTS

This 7-day lodge to lodge trekking experience will take you on a historic section of Inca trail through 15 different eco-systems, while you traverse a mountain pass over 15,000 feet, explore villages where locals still maintain age-old traditions and re-discover the mystical beauty of Machu Picchu, the crown jewel of the Inca Empire. Each day’s trek ends with a hot shower in a cozy lodge, complemented by a massage or a dip in an outdoor jacuzzi, followed by a gourmet meal with select wines and all provided with highly personalized service by local staff. The Salkantay experience goes beyond deluxe lodges and a great trek. It is a unique opportunity to experience ancient history in the Land of the Incas, as well as the most interesting and exotic variety of flora and fauna, all in the company of new friends and like-minded souls.

  • In the morning: Visit the Quillarumiyoc archaeological site on the way to the town of Mollepata.

    In the afternoon: Lunch at El Pedregal before your first trek to MLP’s flagship Salkantay Lodge

    Optional: Guests may opt out of the trek and continue by transport to Salkantay Lodge.

  • In the morning: Early morning round-trip hike to the turquoise waters of Lake Humantay

    In the afternoon: Lunch at Salkantay Lodge and afternoon at leisure

    Optional: Afternoon horseback riding at Soraypampa (subject to additional cost)

    Overnight: Salkantay Lodge (12,690’ / 3,869m)

  • In the morning: Journey through the Salkantay River Valley as you begin your climb to the Salkantay Pass

    In the afternoon: After marveling at the majesty of the Salkantay Peak and patting yourself on the back for a job well-done, enjoy lunch on the mountain before heading down to Wayraccmachay

  • In the morning: Begin your descent into the cloud forest on the way to Colpa Lodge

    In the afternoon: Upon arrival, the staff will be waiting for us with a traditional Pachamanca lunch; afternoon at leisure

    Overnight: Colpa Lodge (9,414’ / 2,870m)

  • In the morning: Descend along the Santa Teresa River towards Lucmabamba

    In the afternoon: Afternoon visit to a local coffee plantation before arrival

    Overnight: Lucma Lodge (7,003’ / 2,135m)

  • In the morning: Travel uphill through the cloud forest to the Llactapata Pass for a seldom-seen view of Machu Picchu.

    In the afternoon: Lunch en route followed by a winding descent to the Aobamba River Valley, ending the day with a 30-minute train ride to Aguas Calientes.

    Overnight: Hotel in Aguas Calientes (6,232’ / 1,900m)

  • In the morning: Early morning guided tour of Machu Picchu followed by free time for further exploration or a hike up Huayna Picchu*.

    In the afternoon: Lunch in Aguas Calientes; afternoon train ride and van transport back to Cusco (11,021’ / 3,360m)

    *Note: Tickets for Huayna Picchu Mt. (8,924’ / 2,720m) may be available subject to additional cost. In the event that Huayna Picchu permits are not available for your desired date, you may opt for a hike up Machu Picchu Mt. (10,112 / 3,082m), located next to the Machu Picchu Citadel on the southern side. Please consult with your MLP Travel Specialist for detailed information.

    • We need to purchase entrance tickets to the Citadel of Machupicchu in advance since the entrance has limited capacity.

    • To buy the entrance ticket to the citadel and the train tickets you must deposit USD. $200.00 in advance, non-refundable amount.

    • We will need you to send us your name, copy of your passport, we will be glad to confirm your space depending on availability. If you change your passport after purchasing your Inca Trail entrance fee, you will have to bring a copy of the old passport as well as the new original passport

  • It is very important to acclimatize properly. If you are just arriving to Cusco, I recommend at least 1 full day in Cusco, preferably 2 days (3,300mts/10,824ft)

    Often people have a tight schedule and want to do as much as possible with their time, but acclimatization is important for you to be able to accomplish your goals.

    We can offer some light services before the trip to easy your hike, like a tour of one day.

  • Gallop through undulating open vistas, climb rugged high mountain trails, and meander beside rolling rivers on your way to Machu Picchu. We house the finest American Quarter Horses from top farms in Uruguay that have been extensively trained with the sole purpose of becoming perfect Salkantay trail companions for riders of varied levels. (Please note: Previous riding experience required.)

    MLP’s horses have been trained Western-style and are fitted with American endurance saddles. (English saddles are available upon request.) The team is cared for impeccably and is well-rested before each journey.

    Although each of our horses has been trained to adapt to varied experience levels, there may be certain characteristics that you prefer. Take a look to find your ideal travel companion!

    • Entrance fees and permits to touristic and archaeological sites.

    • Rates per person, based on shared accommodations in a twin, double or triple room. • 50% supplement for requested single room and 25% for single willing to share. •

    • Private services, additional services and specialty guides are available upon request at an additional cost. •

    • Standard languages are Spanish and English. For other languages please contact your Travel Specialist.

    • Daily activities will be subject to factors such as weather and other events beyond our control.

    • We kindly request that every guest presents valid proof of insurance coverage as a minimum for Medical Emergency Treatment and Evacuation. Make sure that the insurance policy includes Adventure Travel Activities or similar coverage.
